Inspire Who You Want to Be This Year
The new year is here. The perfect opportunity to reflect and resolve. But instead of making a list of all the bad habits you want to break, or things you didn't get done and want to check off the list this time around... what if your resolution this year wasn't about all that? What if this time, you focused on how you want to feel this year, and not what you want to do. What possibilities could open up if you just started living as the person you want to be?
One of my favorite shows is The Good Place. There is a scene where they talk about how everyone keeps getting reset and starting over, and with each "reboot" they retain the lessons they learned each time around, like an IOS update. What if this is your reboot? What if in this moment you choose to show up as the 3.0 version of yourself that you want to be, simply because you decide it is so?
I have a secret to tell you. Our surroundings constantly impact us. Our emotions and our mindset. It's a shortcut and you can use it to your advantage. How? By changing what you interact with and look at on a daily basis.
If the new reboot of you, wants to be more assertive and confident, try surrounding yourself in colors that evoke that emotion for you. Maybe reds, vibrant jewel tones, not to ignore shades that resonate in your body with power and strength. Slick smooth surfaces like glass and metal, or highly polished wood. Choose art and accessories in high visibility zones that make you feel confident and empowered. Step into that version of who you are, literally.
Maybe the 2024 reboot of you wants to focus on living in the moment. Try colors that make your body melt- an instant "ahhhh". Accessories that constantly stimulate your senses with different textures, scents, and temperatures. Artwork that is mesmerizing and makes you pause, creating a gap in your thoughts and allowing moments of stillness and breath.
Need to evoke your creative self and finally get those juices flowing? Yellow might be the ticket to your creative optimism. Or maybe gray gives you the mental space to imagine without limits. Add some whimsical accessories that make you think outside the box. Unexpected artwork that makes you smile.
Do you want to start living with more connection to yourself and others? Try incorporating wood materials with lots of character, like second hand finds that have a story to tell. Colors that create warmth and coziness, accessories that inspire gathering and sharing space. Artwork that starts a conversation.
The grounding effects of nature impact us on a primal level. If you need to feel more of "all the above" in your reboot, go back to your roots. Earth tones like greens and browns will anchor your space in timeless color. Live plants can make you feel more centered and grounded. Choose earth based materials: woods, woven goods like rattan, caning or baskets, richly textured fabrics like twill, cotton, and linen. Artwork that reminds you of your favorite outdoor explorations.
This year, let your resolution be inspiration. Surround yourself with what you love, and what reminds you of who you are meant to be.
