You Need A Focal Point- Transform your room with wall art.
We often underestimate the importance of a focal point in a space. I like to say it is similar to the flow of a conversation. When you enter a room something needs to “speak” to you first. It should be the boldest, the loudest and set the tone for all that follows. If you don’t have this piece, what occurs is a visual “shouting match” between everything else vying for your attention.
What do I look at first- the plant, the table, the chair, the pattern of the carpet? It all competes unless you have one unifying piece that ties it all together. It’s the anchor to everything else. It is not the moment to play small. I have never found that multiple small art pieces, or just one piece that is awkwardly small, will have that effect. In fact, even gallery walls need a larger piece as their focal point. Unfortunately gallery walls are so hard to get right, what you often end up with is a wall full of visual clutter, not the cool, artistic collection you were after.
One large piece of artwork as a focal point:
-defines each space in a great room layout
-sets an emotion in the room
-balances out the fullness of what's on the floor (furniture and rugs) and carries it up onto the wall
-balances out the other empty walls around it
-creates a window effect in a space that feels enclosed
Investing in one large central piece of art ties together the myriad of “stories” that are occurring visually in a space, connecting the color palette, subtle textures, patterns and lines, it fills the empty spaces with it’s presence, and creates the energy level for the room.
Wow! Did you know you could get all that from one design choice?
